Great YA Story That Will Leave You Wanting More

Holding On by Author Rachael Brownell is a well written account of how love can be denied and lost for the sake of preserving friendship. This story was beautifully written, with great character development and a very realistic story line.

This book engaged me from page one. The way that Becca handled the news of her impending move 2000 miles away showed a level of maturity that was missing in many of the YA books I have read. While she had her moments of frustration with her mother over the decision, she accepted it and handled herself with grace.

It was enjoyable to read a character that takes her situation and looks for positives. Understanding her strengths, she uses them to make new friends, work out frustrations and create opportunities for herself and her future.

Her back and forth between the boy who loves her from back home and the boy she is falling for in her new town reveals the depth of her ability to love and allow herself to be loved. She wants the best of both worlds, but knows it is not possible and that someone will get hurt when she is forced to decide.

Equally refreshing was the fact that these characters came from middle class families with believeable backstories. It was pleasant to read a YA book where the characters were not self absorbed twits, the parents were active in their children's lives and trust boundaries were not breached.

Rachael is definitely an author who's books will be on my TBR list.

I'm all about giving a book a chance and damn I am glad I did. It was so good and I can't wait for book 2 after reading the little teaser in the back. Absolutely 5 star read

Awesome Book!!!

THIS IS A VERY GOOD BOOK. I would recommend this book for 14+ because, there were a lot of cuss words on it and some sexual scenes in the book. But otherwise it was a really good book. The only thing I didn't like was Becca picking Ethan instead of Brad. I think Brad and Becca would have been perfect together. They both had feelings for each other, since they became friends, they just didn't know it until Becca's mom decided to move them to Tuscon, I think.

When the explorers reach their destination, they proceed with caution, hiding the biplane they arrive in, and trying to keep themselves hidden in the forests that border the land. They are quickly found by three young women who they realize are observing them from the treetops. After attempting to catch the girls with trickery, the men end up chasing the young women towards a town or village. The women outrun them easily and disappear among the houses, which, Van notes are exceptionally well made and attractive. After meeting the first inhabitants of this new land (which Van names Herland) the men proceed more cautiously, noting that the girls they met were strong, agile, and completely unafraid. Their caution is warranted because as the men enter the town where the girls disappeared, they become surrounded by a large group of women who march them towards an official looking building. . . Wisehouse Classics are the best

Obviously many people still want to keep the classics in their library, and most of the books have been transferred to ebooks. The problem with these are that a lot of stuff doesn't get in like a cover or description. With these Wisehouse Classics you get it all, including original drawings that were in the original books giving the book personality. If I want to read something I always go for the description to decide. There are so many books from the greatest authors that get passed over daily. I hope they do even more because I would get them all.

Herland is an important text both in the history of utopian writing and in the broader field of women's fiction. Although Gilman can be seen as a feminist writer, this is more in her focus on female-centered narrative and less in her awareness of women as individuals.

Very useful book for any professional

This book is the best on the market. Chapters are well written and organized. I found the chapter objectives, key terms, activities, and exercises very helpful. I am not a communication major, but purchased and read the book as I deal with students, teachers, and parents daily as an Occupational Therapist. Buy This Book! It Worked Before; It Will Work Again

If you want to create 3D web content, can learn from code examples and are reasonably experienced with creating web content, this is the book to buy. If you have already built 3D web content with say VRML or X3D and want to leverage those skills in new platforms emerging for 3D On The Web Part IV, (nothing gnu under the sun), this is the book to buy. IF you are waiting for the newest 3D declarative models that leverage these technologies to make it easier to build 3D on the Web, you may want to wait but in my experience, it is better to understand the rigging and libraries that make that possible so you still want to have this book. In my long trudge as a raw newbie and hobbyist since the early days of VRML 1, no one has done more to make it possible for people such as I to build 3D content for the web than Tony Parisi.

This book is readable, understandable and full of examples that will get you started. If you also did the trudge through the last two and half decades of building 3D on the web, you will recognize these as classic examples that enable someone with the basics of euclidean geometry to understand how arrays of vertices and stacks of materials are used to create the basic building blocks of 3D we commonly understand. In this sense, Tony is wisely and masterfully building on the examples that experience has proven to work when instructing beginners and refreshing journeymen.

That said, a little rant given the costs of building AND maintaining 3D content on the web. Tony touches on this topic and is honest about it but as a veteran of hypermedia content and application design and construction since before the web was conceived, I allow myself this.

3D ON THE WEB IS HARD, EXPENSIVE AND HAS A HIGH BODY COUNT.

Tony has tried to reduce the numbers on all three of those counts and has always succeeded. That the industry that has grown up around it has not made that last is an indicator of the raw immaturity of its membership. The 3D industry and it's gamer siblings will probably need to die before this gets better.

The trick is having a browser resident rendering viewer that stays stable for more than two years. Alas, the history of 3D on The Web says the odds are not good. The cost of 3D web work has never been borne well. Every truly interesting object such as this boat takes up to a year's worth of a competent 3D artist's time and then practical maintenance because it is software, code that has to be updated to the whimsy of the low-level platform developers for whom vertices are just stuff and shaders are everyday assignments. The high level content developer is a slave to their libraries and they are slaves to their passion to be the smartest geek in the room, a measure of nanoseconds of performance to which they will gladly and with a self-satisfied smirk sacrifice all their slaves and the cut stone the slaves have hauled to the building site. Had the Pyramid at Giza been built with 3D on The Web, the stone cutters would still be reshaping the foundatiion blocks while the pharoah was being beguiled by the pitch men of the perfect cover stones gleaming in the distance before his enemies.

Buy this book and understand the complexity because in the complexity and the numerous caveats that Tony illuminates are the reasons for the rant above, the risks you undertake and the problems that must be solved by domination or committee if the new generation of virtual reality coming on the market as I write this is to "work this time". Caveat emptor.

Excellent Addition for both Amateurs and Professionals

This is the 3rd WebGL book I have purchased in the last couple years. I started with Mr. Parisi's other WebGL book (WebGL: Up and Running).

While the previous book was a great starting guide, this edition starts with a couple introduction chapters covering general 3D concepts. It continues by extending the latter book's concepts with new chapters ranging from the Three.js library to production concepts such as a 'content pipeline'. An amateur might not appreciate the latter but it can make or break a professional studio.

He also touches on Canvas rendering, CSS 3D transforms, and mobile development. Very important concepts for the modern WebGL app developer.

Excellent material. I highly recommend this book for both professional 3D developers and amateurs just starting out. It can save you years of grind.

Clifford at the Circus

I loved this book it was so cute how Emily and Clifford helped out at the circus because if they didnt the show wouldnt be able to continue. This book would be good for children 4-8. You could have a kid try to read this book to you when their just starting out, I started out on Clifford and Dr. Suess books when I was learning how to read. This book teaches children to help people out and not just do something for themselves. I wish I had a dog just like Clifford!! Cliffords always doing good things for other people even when he doesnt know them!

Fun book

This book is a lot of fun. My son loves to hear about Clifford and Emily Elizabeth helping when the circus comes to town. As always Clifford saves the day. The pictures are bright and engaging and the book describes many different aspects of the circus. Just wait till you see what happens when Clifford eats all the cotton candy and then gets thirsty. I reccommend buying this book to find out.

Peavey Guitars book review

Fascinating account of Peavey's innovative guitars. I owned a couple of T60's back in the late '70's, and it was interesting to read about the development of that model. Both the guitars and the production methods were highly innovative, and the book goes into quite a lot of detail about that. The only reason I gave it 4 instead of 5 stars is that some of the illustrations, especially of Peavey's advertising from the period, are too small to see the ad copy--and there are a few minor typos scattered throughout the book--nothing major, but a little proofreading would have helped. Otherwise I'd recommend this book to anyone who's interested in the history of the electric guitar.

As a musician with a keen interest in rock history, and the evolution of its gear, I could not put this book down. Author Willie G. Mosely delivers a well written documentary of the early history of Peavey Electronics and Hartley's decision in 1984 to add his own guitars to his already seemingly endless line of products for the working musician. With the same mantra as made his amplifiers so successful in the marketplace in the mid 60's, "Quality equipment at a fair price, for the working musician," Peavey took on the "big two," with innovations in product design, production and marketing, drawing the immediate attention of top tier musicians of practically every genre. The research that went into this project is evident, as Moseley takes you virtually step by step throughout the design and production processes, from the original T60 guitar, and T40 bass, through the double-neck customs of the 1990's. Excellent read, highly recommended for anyone with any interest in the history of electric guitars.

This book is the definitive history of the design, development and evolution of the Peavey guitar. From the origins of the T-60 to the Wolfgang, and from the Generation Series to the cutting edge guitars and basses of today; Moseley's in depth research explains the visions and innovations of those who created these instruments. The list of artists is endless! Jerry Reed, Eddie VanHalen, Steve Cropper and Adrian Vandenburg (to name a few) have all created lasting music on a Peavey guitar. That in itself is the legacy. Pick up this book and find out how "just an idea" became a world wide brand.
