Exciting Read from Start to Finish

If you like Raymond Chandler you’ll like Peter Bartram’s novel about slightly crusty and witty investigative journalist, Colin Crampton, who stumbles upon a major crime in his town of Brighton, England. Set in the 1960s, Crampton navigates old-fashioned typewriters and pay phones while digging deeper into a story that at first appears pretty harmless. The nicely woven plot intensifies and offers several surprises as Crampton puts himself in harm’s way. I especially loved some of the dry humor that makes this story shine. I’m already looking forward to the next Crampton mystery.

HEADLINE MURDER has a noir-ish feel but readers do not need to be fans of noir to enjoy the book. The author gives the readers much to enjoy both in the setting and characters as the story unfolds. Readers will immediately take to the protagonist, Colin Crampton, and will be eagerly awaiting his next investigation.

funny read - but still within the crime fiction genre ...

As a big reader of crime fiction, I am always on the lookout for new novels to read. This one caught my interest as I am a fan of all things British and thought a light, funny read - but still within the crime fiction genre - would be the perfect thing to bring along on holiday. I loved the swinging 60s setting of the story and the characters that brought it all to life. Peter Bartram has a gift for wit and keeping the reader interested until the end. Bring on the next Crampton of the Chronicle novel!

He is especially familar to outdoor enthusiasts in north-central Alberta, where he has lived and worked for the past thirty years. His enthusiasm for wilderness recreation, his extensive knowledge of the field, and his desire to learn everything there is to know about the wilderness has made him one of the foremost authorities on wilderness skills.

Mors has taught four 3 credit courses in Outdoor Education for the Faculty of Physical Education at the University of Alberta in Edmonton for twenty five years.

About the Author
Helga Kuhse, former Director of the Centre for Human Bioethics at Monash University, Melbourne, is now Senior Honorary Research Fellow at the Centre. She is author and co-author of several books including Caring: Nurses, Women and Ethics (Blackwell 1996), Willing to Listen – Wanting to Die (1995), Individuals, Humans and Persons: Questions of Life and Death (with Peter Singer, 1994). She is the co-founder of the Blackwell journal Bioethics and is co-editor of the accompanying volume A Companion to Bioethics (Blackwell 1999).

Peter Singer is Ira W. DeCamp Professor of Bioethics at the University Center for Human Values, Princeton University. He is the author of Animal Liberation, first published in 1975, and is widely credited with triggering the modern animal rights movement. His Practical Ethics is one of the most widely used texts in applied ethics, and Rethinking Life and Death received the 1995 Australian National Book Council’s Banjo Award for nonfiction. He was the foundation president of the International Association of Bioethics.

Interesting book for those who want to explore biomedical ethics

Hi,

I bought this book for a Biomedical Ethics class that I was taking in college. It is a very interesting read if you are into this kind of stuff. It made me rethink some of my conceptions about potentiality and physician assisted suicide. It is a very thick book and we barely went through half of it in class. After the class was over I chose to keep the book instead of reselling it. I hope you gain something from it.

There's always a story to tell

An easy read, appealing to a broad audience. I found it difficult to put the book (kindle) down even though I knew the ending having heard Pete talk at our national conference. Pete is neither a public speaker nor an author but his story keeps you riveted and inspires the meekest of souls.
